Quick profile*

“Right up there” is the motto adopted by the University of Applied Sciences Emden/Leer. It represents both a geographical reality and an aspirational ideal, as well as a commitment to the region. Its location in the direct proximity of the coast and in the extreme north-west of Germany is the defining characteristic of the university and the economic region. With its varied and up-to-the minute range of courses, the university of applied sciences has positioned itself as a university of the region and for the region. Teaching and courses with an international profile are viewed as essential components when training early career researchers for a globalised knowledge sodciety. Research, technology transfer and continuing education courses – particularly in the university’s established areas of specialisation– provide impetus for new start-ups or for new strategic directions in business and society.

Research

The university’s three core research areas, “Sustainable Technologies”, “Resource Orientation in the Tension of the Individual and Society”, and “Industrial Informatics and Automation Systems” were defined in 2013 and included in the research map compiled by the German Rectors’ Conference (HRK). The University of Applied Sciences Emden/Leer also focuses on the future-oriented theme of “digital technologies”, thereby helping to stimulate innovation in a field that plays a key role for the further development of the region across all sectors.
