Quick profile*

Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) – the research university in the Helmholtz Association
As a research university in the Helmholtz Association, KIT creates and transmits knowledge for society and the environment. The objective is to make decisive contributions to solving the global challenges facing humanity in the fields of energy, mobility and information. In order to achieve this objective, researchers work in a broad range of disciplines – from basic research to practical applications. KIT's research-focused courses prepare its students for responsible roles in society, industry and scholarship. Innovation activities at KIT forge the link between discovery and application.

Sustainable solutions for urgent future issues

KIT focuses its major research fields on the long-term challenges facing society across a wide range of subjects in natural sciences, engineering and economics, the humanities and social sciences. Energy, mobility and information are traditionally strong at KIT – their seamless integration is essential for the success of the energy transition, for example. Doctoral candidates at KIT conduct autonomous research at an early stage, and receive various types of support, e.g. through the Karlsruhe House of Young Scientists, a central facility at KIT for fostering early career researchers.
