Hochschule Fresenius University of Applied Sciences, with locations in Frankfurt am Main, Hamburg, Idstein, Cologne, Munich, Düsseldorf and New York, is the largest private ‘bricks-and-mortar’ university in Germany. The university has a proud history spanning almost 170 years. In 1848, Carl Remigius Fresenius founded the “Chemische Laboratorium Fresenius” in Wiesbaden, an institution dedicated to both laboratory practice and training from the very beginning. The university, which received government accreditation in 1971, follows that tradition to this day.

Research
Hochschule Fresenius is committed to the unity of theory, research and practice. For us, research means: probing the topics that matter to business and society. Whether it be plastic waste in rivers, 3D scans of Cologne Cathedral or mobility in old age – our professors work together with students at the cutting edge of science, in touch with people's needs as well as those of business. Numerous research institutes, for example the Institute for Analytical Research (IFAR), the Institute for Complex Health Research, the Media Management Institute or the Institute for Applied Digital Visualisation, testify to the university's impressive performance, as do the large number of cooperative doctoral degrees.
