Along with its classes and studios, the academy's creative learning spaces include over thirty teaching workshops for metalwork and wood work, for casting bronze, painting techniques, printing and bookbinding techniques, for media, photography and for computer-aided design, in which ideas and concepts are realised in analogue or digital form. The workshops play a key role in artistic training, and as places where the academy's trademark interdisciplinary approach is on display.
Research
Stuttgart State Academy is entitled to confer doctorates and habilitations, meaning it is one of the few art academies in Germany with university status. Graduates can pursue further academic training in the fields of architecture, art studies, art history, media theory, art education and philosophy. A postgraduate course leading to the academic degree of “Meisterschüler of the State Academy of Art and Design” is also offered.
