It was founded in 1958 as the Rheinische Ingenieurschule für Bau- und Maschinenbauwesen, a college of civil and mechanical engineering. The university offers 18 bachelor’s and 10 master's degree courses in full-time, dual (work-study) and part-time modes in the fields of engineering, media, medical economics and health, business & law and also logistics management, marketing and communications management.
