Quick profile*

Research and teaching at the University of Lübeck have their roots in the field of medicine. Today, however, our range of subjects in computer science, natural sciences and engineering goes far beyond that. These subjects comprise the university’s specialisation of Life Science, which is reflected in its motto, Focus on Life.

Vigorous interdisciplinary exchange of ideas is the engine for powerful, innovative and knowledge-oriented basic research of an international calibre with the potential for a multitude of practical applications. The university cooperates closely with research establishments and businesses, both nationally and internationally, in order to continuously improve the quality of its teaching and research and master the challenges and opportunities of global competition.

The quality of teaching – multifaceted, research-based, well-structured both systematically and didactically – forms the foundation for one of the best ranked universities in the German-speaking world.

Life outside of laboratories and lecture theatres is also enriched by the abundant cultural and sports activities offered by the university, which enjoys close ties with the City of Lübeck.
