German Research Institutions

The German Sport University Cologne is the only university of sport in Germany and as such is known far beyond the borders of Germany and Europe. The college provides scientifically based training with highly attractive career prospects to almost 6,000 students. Twenty institutes, four affiliated institutes and nine scientific centres conducting top-level research provide the foundation for the college’s teaching and research. The university campus in Cologne West is part of a one-of-a-kind cluster of research institutions, sport venues and facilities that also include the RheinEnergieSTADION.

Research

Research activities are focused on sport and movement from the key perspectives of performance, health, society and education. Research at the university investigates issues relevant to elite sport as well as various aspects of sport in schools, recreational sport and sport for health and fitness. This includes the investigation of economic, psychological, ethical, sociological, environmental, educational, biomechanical or physiological factors, not least in order to obtain valuable insights into the influence of movement, exercise, nutrition or physical inactivity on healthy and sick people of all ages.
