The University of Siegen is a medium-sized research university with an interdisciplinary alignment. It has firm roots in the region of South Westphalia, along with extensive national and international networks. Research

Excellence in cultural and media research has a long tradition at Siegen. The DFG Collaborative Research Centre “Collaborative Media” examines how digital developments determine our daily life and their social impacts. The university also has expertise in sensor technology and nano research. The Research Training Group “Imaging New Modalities” conducts research on imaging sensors, mainly applied in the civil security sector. SMEs have been an established focus of research for some years now. The impacts of a digitised, globalised world on SMEs are investigated through interdisciplinary collaboration. At the University of Siegen, the topic of inclusion is explored from multiple perspectives: in cultural education, approaches in special education and as a (socio-) spatial strategy, for example in urban planning.
