Quick profile*

In 2013, the Frankfurt College of Music and the Performing Arts, Frankfurt am Main (HfMDK) celebrated the 75th anniversary of its foundation. It was formed from Dr. Hoch’s Conservatorium – Joseph Hoch’s foundation dating from 1878 – in 1938. Five years after it was founded, the HfMDK was destroyed in the war, and did not recommence teaching until 1947.

Today, 63 professors and 350 assistant lecturers teach more than 950 students. The diversity of artistic potential is reflected in over twenty courses in which the HfMDK provides training that is both successful and practice-oriented: instrumental and vocal, composition, conducting, sacred music and the practice of historical interpretation, contemporary and classical dance, acting and directing, along with theatre and orchestra management, teaching qualifications, music education and musicology, both with the opportunity to complete a doctorate.
