The University of Kassel is a young university offering a wide variety of courses in natural and engineering sciences, social sciences, the humanities and art. It is conceived as a university at which openness to new ideas, initiative, transdisciplinary and unconventional thinking are welcomed and fostered. This ethos applies not only to study, research and teaching, but also to new business ventures, to which the University of Kassel provides special support. The university has exceptionally close ties within the region of North Hesse and the city of Kassel, which numbers among the most economically and culturally dynamic cities in Germany.

The university of ideas

Researchers and students at the University of Kassel grapple with the major issues of the future, from the impacts of globalisation, overcoming climate change and sustainable business management through to the ongoing development of materials and technical systems. The goal here is to develop, review and implement ideas, even if they are not yet part of the mainstream. This frequently calls for an innovative combination of fundamental and applied research as well as inter- and transdisciplinary approaches.
