Quick profile*

The Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt (KU) is the first and only Catholic university in the German-speaking world. It is dedicated to dialogue between science and belief, and between the church and the world – making the university an environment for exemplary research, teaching and learning. Those wishing to study at the Catholic University need not belong to any particular denomination, however. Situated in the heart of Bavaria, the university combines the advantages of a moderately sized university of applied sciences with an international outlook and an interdisciplinary approach. To study, teach or research in Eichstätt and Ingolstadt means to work in a family atmosphere – small groups instead of overfilled lecture theatres, individual advice and personal contact instead of anonymous mass processing. Everything is close to hand, and the well-equipped library and computer centre round off the excellent study conditions. The KU offers a diverse range of courses, meaning that it caters to first-year students with a variety of interests and talents. The manageable size of the Catholic University enables interdisciplinary exchange between the eight faculties and their fields of study. The university also has an excellent network worldwide: more than 250 partner universities of applied sciences are available to students in Europe, North and South America, Asia and Oceania for a period of study abroad.

The university has defined four core research areas consonant with its Christian and humanist ethos: “church, religion and society”, “responsibility and justice”, “global education and teacher education”, and “cultural encounters and transcultural processes”. The establishment of clusters incorporates interdisciplinary research activities into the structure.
