Quick profile*

Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU) is known for its exacting standard of academic training and excellent research. The LMU fulfils the role of a genuine “universitas”, and as such, seeks to develop cross-disciplinary, problem-oriented solutions for the increasingly complex issues of the future affecting the individual, society, culture, environment and technology. This guiding principle also demands an all-round education for students, including social skills and a critical awareness of values and history.

Ideal conditions for early career researchers

The creative intelligence of young researchers is an indispensable requirement for a forward-looking university. To nurture this resource, LMU creates favourable research and training conditions for graduates and doctoral candidates alike. Along with numerous international master's programmes, the university offers an increasing number of doctoral programmes in a very wide range of subjects in addition to its traditional individual doctoral training. LMU also provides solid career prospects for early career researchers, for example through offers of targeted funding in the post-doc phase and the tenure track model, which LMU has been offering successfully for some time.
