Research-based, professionally relevant courses
As a higher education institution at university level specialising in education, teaching and research, the University of Education Schwäbisch Gmünd is the centre of expertise in education, health and interculturalism for East Württemberg. It offers academically based, professionally relevant academic training that opens up a multitude of career opportunities and occupations to students, from crèches and kindergartens, primary schools, secondary level I and vocational schools to health promotion and healthcare organisation and employment in the context of migration and integration processes. The university's students also benefit from a wide variety of opportunities to acquire additional competences in various specialisations and extension courses and by participating in research and applied projects within the framework of innovative teaching concepts. The university's Staufer study model constitutes a unique concept for training and guidance.

Research activities are aligned with the core academic areas of educational, interdisciplinary health promotion, migration and participation research. Along with basic research, students are introduced to professional practice early on through research transfer activities. This is organised through established research and transfer centres such as the Health Promotion Competence Centre, the Media Education Centre, the Diagnostic Centre, the BUFO Picture Book Centre and the Competence Centre for National Science Education.  Teaching and learning through research is the guiding principle of the University of Education Schwäbisch Gmünd, and one anchored in its study regulations.
