Research
Tübingen is one of the world's leading centres for the neurosciences. Along with translational immunology and cancer research, microbiology, infection research and plant molecular biology, they feature strongly in Tübingen's research focus on the life sciences. Other priority areas include geoscience and environmental science, archaeology and anthropology, language and cognition, and education and media. Thirteen Collaborative Research Centres, 6 DFG-funded Research Training Groups, 3 Humboldt professorships and more than 200 projects funded by the European Research Council bear testament to Tübingen's excellence.
Numerous non-university research institutes with which the university cooperates have established themselves in Tübingen. This includes four Max Planck institutes, four Helmholtz Association national health centres and two Leibniz institutes. The Tübingen Research Campus was established with external cooperation partners in 2016.
